About the exam

Covers the Features and Functionality of Vantage 1.1 and the Advanced SQL Engine Through Release 16.20.

This exam will certify that the successful candidate has knowledge of the core concepts of Vantage 1.1 and the Advanced SQL Engine. The candidate understands relational database concepts, the major components, core features and functionality, security and privacy, and Teradata data distribution and data access methods—including a basic understanding of Teradata Tools and Utilities. Register for the Vantage Associate Exam

To register for the Associate Exam, visit home.pearsonvue.com/teradata and select exam: TDBL 1:16.20 Associate Exam. 

Candidates are able to register and take the Associate Exam either in a Pearson Vue test center or remotely, at their home or office. FAQs and additional information on this option are available.

Bypass this Exam

Already Certified in Teradata 14?

All Teradata 14 certification holders can bypass the Associate Exam and take any Advanced SQL Engine job role exam—Administrator, Developer, or System Architect.

There is NO expiration for this certification.

RECOMMENDED EXPERIENCE 

No Advanced SQL Engine hands-on experience is expected.

Successful completion of this exam will earn you a Vantage Certified Associate certification with a digital badge.

This exam does not have any prerequisites

DURATION

This exam allows 75 minutes for answering exam questions whether you are testing in a Pearson Vue test center or with a remote proctor.

GENERAL CONCEPTS – 21% 

Candidates should have an understanding of relational concepts, the characteristics of a relational database and dimensional model, as well as an understanding of the use cases for deploying relational and dimensional models.

DATA WAREHOUSE ARCHITECTURE – 17%

Candidates should be able to identify the high-level concepts and major components of the data warehouse architecture, deployment options, implementation types, the data flow of data warehouses and the reasons for deploying a data warehouse architecture.

TERADATA ADVANCED SQL ENGINE ARCHITECTURE AND COMPONENTS – 17%

Candidates should understand the flow of data from source to consumption, identify the features and benefits, and the purpose of both physical and logical components of the Advanced SQL Engine, the features and benefits and the definitions of objects in the Advanced SQL Engine, be able to identify space classification and how space is used and be able to identify the components of a table definition.

DATA DISTRIBUTION AND ACCESS – 19%

Candidates should be able to identify use cases of Primary, Secondary, and Join indexes, the impact the Primary Index has on data distribution, the differences between Primary Index and Primary Key, the types, levels and functionality of locking and the purpose and components of the access layer.

SECURITY AND PRIVACY – 12%

Candidates should be able to identify user privacy and security mechanisms available to the SQL Engine, features for managing user privileges, and functions and types of authentication.

TERADATA TOOLS AND UTILITIES – 14%

Candidates must be able to identify the common data integration techniques and their uses, the features and functions of the administering and monitoring tools and the common access tools available within the Teradata client tools and their uses. This includes Teradata Studio Express, Teradata App Center and BTEQ.
